Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Fan Atmosphere Following Comfortable Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not enjoy stronger backing from the Wembley spectators during their commanding 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his side showcase their winning momentum, with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes effectively ending the match. Yet, he was displeased with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“With limited training days to get ready against a well-trained team and we excelled,” the coach remarked. “We could have been five goals ahead at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth ones. There was little noise. We didn’t get any energy from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s sad because the squad deserved greater backing today.”
“I maintain this statement. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more backing in moments where it is challenging.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Performance
Away from risking a dispute among fans, Tuchel also created controversy by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was validated by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is vying for his place.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who face Belgium in a important World Cup qualifier on next week, improve after their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“This is why I scheduled this game,” Bellamy said. “I wanted to assess our current level. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? This performance fills me with motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and may miss out when England face Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on next week.
